Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.” So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.- 1 Kings 17: 2-6 Wait what..... That’s right, BIRDS brought Elijah meat and bread.
Many times, those who have been in church for a while, tend to skip past these sorts of things in the Bible. The talking animals, miraculous, seas opening, and bread falling from the sky are difficult to imagine. Yet, many have become so accustomed to the stories we forget the mere practical implications of the story. And in this case, we see the prophet Elijah has birds act as his personal daily food delivery company. In my many years, one thing I can assure you is that most birds are not leaving meals at my front step! Some can conclude that Elijah received “special treatment” since he was a prophet. But, we see God doing miracles such as this even with the Israelites, who never quite did the right thing. Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. Exodus 16:4 Even if we consider Genesis 1-2, we see God ALWAYS prepares for His children to have what they need. Note that the food or provision was created before Adam and Eve were ever formed. Time and time again, the Lord reminds us that He will supply our needs (Philippians 4:19). He remind us that seeking Him first is the key to having everything we need (Matthew 6:33). Yet, when we find ourselves in a bind, we so easily forget these things. My friends, God desires for His children to never be in lack. Not only this, as we can see from the examples above, He’s willing to defy the laws of gravity and physics to get it to you! The Lord will take care of His children by any means necessary. As you are reading, perhaps you have been believing for a breakthrough in your finances. Perhaps, you have goals you desire to accomplish but have no finances to get there. Whatever you are going through, the Lord sees you right where you are and desires to fulfill you. I love the following verse: I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. Psalm 37:25 My friends, I encourage you to seek first God. When you do, you will be surprised how quickly the Lord will get the blessing to you! I can recall countless times where I merely thought, “Man, my children can use some clothes.” Within hours, a person would be offering me a bag of clothes. There was even an instance when my child was in need of diapers. Before I could even say out loud the need for more, TWO neighbors brought me packs of diapers within a 48 hour span. I’ve seen firsthand that the Lord used people to bless me. In many occasions, I hadn’t even asked for it. Friends, we serve a God who knows exactly what you need, even before you do!
I encourage you to trust God in every area. A key to unlocking your victory is knowing where it comes from! The Lord. He desires for you to live a life of abundance where you are the one who can hand out the blessings! He is indeed our provider!
